These bowls come in handy in the bathroom. The blue one holds soap. The orange one just screams at me each morning to help me awake! They are part of a range of Orrefors called Colora and show the different thicknesses of the glass created by the &#;Fuga&#; technique. I think they date from the late 50&#;s or early 60&#;s. I really like the variation in colour (outside to inside) of the blue piece. The orange one is just plain &#;loud&#;!

    The designer: Sven Palmqvist

"Sven Palmqvist developed the Fuga technique to provide Orrefors with a means to mass-produce cheap domestic glasswares. The technique is characterized by its simplicity and its ingenuity and works as follows: molten glass is poured into a spinning mould that, through its centrifugal spinning force (hence the name “Fuga”), presses the glass outward and upward. The internal shape of the piece being produced is determined by an internal plunger. The whole process can be done automatically and takes less then one minute. When the glass pops out, it is completely finished and does not need to be polished or did not

    Fuga or Colora

Sven Palmqvist developed the Fuga technique to provide Orrefors with a means to mass-produce cheap domestic glasswares. When the glass pops out, it is completely finished and does not need to be polished or did not need manual finishing in any other way. Fuga pieces are not only made for the swedish market, but were mass-produced and almost immediately exported world-wide.

As the above suggests, Fuga or Colora pieces were/are produced in large quantities. As with everything, there is a collectors market for these pieces, but one should remember that they were mass-produced and this is also reflected in their value. Pieces in techniques such as Ariel, Graal, Slipgraal, Kraka, Ravenna, Fabula or Litograal are much rarer and command higher prices than Fuga
